Build Others Up To Build You Up

Building others up will feed your soul. Who do you want to be to other people? Do you want to be quiet in the corner, do you want to sulk amongst the crowd, do you want to be feared or loved? I have an image in my mind of the person I’d most like to be; and that’s the guy who lights everyone up by engaging them, complimenting them, and asking them about themselves. I know a few of those guys, they’re fun to be around and I think they enjoy being that guy. It’s disarming as well, and that’s good, you don’t want people to be intimidated by you in such a way that they will not engage with you.

Help yourself by helping others. I gotta believe that it’s easy to be this person when you’ve worked everything out for yourself and you’ve self-actualized. But I believe you can get there faster by lifting others up when you feel down. Tell people how you admire them or appreciate them or like their hair or shoes or whatever it is. Lighting someone else up will pull you up to. Feeling down? Call or meet up with someone you haven’t in a while and do your best to pick them up. You will get as much benefit from it as they do and will pull you out of a low patch.
