Temperance in 2023

I’m always looking for ways to improve mind, body, and soul. In 2022 I counted the days I was able to stay sober. I achieved 40 days over the course of 365. To some of you that might not sound like that much. For me it was the most I’ve abstained in my adult life.

In 2023 I’m looking to improve upon that and expand my temperance. I want to beat 40 days of sobriety, not sure my goal yet, but through 17 days of January I have 2 so far.

I’m also looking to eat less meat in 2023. I’m not looking to be a vegetarian or a vegan, I am starting by just eating less meat. So in addition to keeping a sobriety log in my journal, now I’m keeping a ‘flesh log’ where I track any meat that I eat on a given day. This isn’t easy but is also going better than expected. Through the same 17 days in January, I’ve only eaten chicken, salmon, or pork sausage on 7 days. It’s a big improvement for me. As I thin is true with most meat eaters I plan a meal around the meat first. Steak night, chicken taco night, spaghetti with meat sauce night, salmon night, hamburger night, and round and round it goes. No more. But why?

The usual reasons; all of which I agree are debatable except the last one.

  • Health
  • Animal Cruelty
  • Climate Change
  • Personal Discipline
