Why Do You Do It?

It amazes me that the human drive can do so much. We put so much pressure on ourselves to accomplish so much during our short little lives. Why do we do it? To what ends will we go in the name of progress, love, acceptance? We want to do good not bad, right not wrong, but in who’s eyes? The healthiest answer to that question is to do it for yourself. But even the most well-meaning of us often have a parent, a teacher, an aspirational lover in mind when we kill ourselves to succeed. You can do everything right, not be there yet and find more to improve. Does it end? You’re doing everything perfectly for months or years for the expectation of appreciation, recognition, acceptance but it never comes. You have to learn to be happy with yourself, outside opinions be damned. It’s your life. It’s fleetingly short. Be the person that suits your soul, spread love, peace, and joy and be ready for death when it comes. This is freedom from outside expectation. Enjoy it.
