Another New Year and what will you do with it? You’ve been reading, you’ve been writing, you’ve been healing. Now it’s time to do it. Last year was a great year, I built my relationships with my boys, my girlfriend, my family, and my friends. I had 99 days of sobriety, I ran a marathon, I read 12 books, and I reflected deeply. I’ve never felt more aware, healed, and purposeful. It has been a long journey and I have a long way to go, but now is time to share.
This year I want to keep going on the habits I built last year and share it here.
My raw lessons in sobriety, co-parenting, strength and endurance training, nutrition, and other worthwhile pursuits will be shared here. By the end of the year I will have an e-book worth of material to share with the world.
Let’s find out who you really are, what do you spend your time doing from minute to minute? Are you building, recovering, adding? Or are you wasting your time scrolling, drinking, or otherwise not investing in yourself and your purpose in life.
Purpose, that’s probably a good place to start. Do you know your purpose? It’s ok if you don’t yet, but realize it’s an important pursuit. Also realize that like inspiration, you can’t wait to have a purpose to get off the couch and do something. No one is going to tell you your purpose or give you your inspiration. YOU have to start somewhere and also no one will tell you when you’ve found it, that’s also up to you. I can tell you where you might find purpose and inspiration. Look at the stories of other humans that have existed and their accomplishments. Know that what they have accomplished can be done, and you can do it. Listen to motivational podcasts, read biographies, and consider the lives of impressive people you have met in real life.
Now you have some inspiration and you’re seeking purpose. What about those people inspired you? Did they run real fast, win a championship, get really wealthy, inspire others, or give back to humanity. Well whatever they did, you can too. They are humans, you are human, what sets you apart are only your habits. So let’s start small with some habits that you know will help you. Do them consistently and stack days of positive movement in the right direction. Here are some simple ones to start with:
Wake up at a consistent and early time and go to bed at least 8 hours prior.
Make your bed – it matters.
Drink clean water – aim for 4 quarts/liters per day.
Get outside and see the sun and breathe fresh air, preferably first thing in the morning.
That’s plenty to start with. Map out how to fit that much into your day, every day, stack those days, and you’ll see a consistent improvement in your life.
What’s my purpose, you ask? To learn from inspiring lives, adopt all the best traits, and share what I’ve learned and synthesized to pass the torch of inspiration to forthcoming generations.
